A Quandary over Laundry
I have long pondered the dilemma of laundry. It is a never-ending principle of life; that there will always be piles and piles of laundry to be washed and piles and piles of laundry to be folded. It doesn't matter how many loads you wash. It doesn't matter how many loads you fold. The piles will themselves into existence as soon as you turn your back. The dirty clothes also secretly plot against you and only jump up at you to get your attention late at night, or just as you are about to leave the house for an extended period of time...you know, long enough for you to forget that you put them in the washer until three days later when you open the machine to start a load, only to wonder exactly which kind of plant you are growing in there. Gross. Then, the whole vicious cycle begins again, but now you need to wash the same load three more times to get rid of the smell of mold. When you finally do get the load into the dryer (which won't always dry it all the way, introducing more mold, and forcing you to start the load all over again.), you realize that you had another load in there from four days ago that you haven't folded yet, but you can't fold it right then because your child had chosen that moment to vomit, fall in the toilet, or get stuck hanging by one leg upside-down from the side of the bunk bed, and you can't wait to dry the wet clothes or they will mold, so you then toss the new pile of clean laundry into your room, which will patiently wait for you, while secretly reproducing until you can not walk to your bed, but have to climb over the mountain in order to sleep. Why do I own more than two pieces of clothing? We always feel bad for the poor living conditions of the pioneers, but I'm telling you, they had it good. They only had one bowl and spoon for each person, so dishes were a cinch. They wore the same clothes for eighteen years before washing them, so they could efficiently do mold-management while wearing the garment. They never had to clean the bathroom because it was the tree in the back yard. Does it get any easier than that? Give me a cow to milk or kettle to watch boil any day if it will save me from doing all this laundry!
